[ after a second of shaking his hands the ball comes unstuck with a huge THUNK and hits the floor, bounces and then very sadly rolls off down the lane and into the gutter ...
the screen up above displays a little graphic that says GUTTERBALL with a sad musical sound effect. ]
[ he doesn't seem completely convinced. but he'll try, try again and rolls a BIG OL 12. True success in Gerard terms. The ball this time hops out of his hand, rolls down and ... knocks down two pins. ]
[Bowling is soooo hard when you are a miss priss. His nails... Ah well. T-chan still has his mouth over the bowling ball on the floor, but he has paused to regard Gerard from his spot.
He doesn't seem to be bothered by a frog man either? Or hungry for one.]
[ gerard will take a look at T-chan and then awkwardly wave in case he is a talking and sapient human person suffering under a curse as well. ]
Yes. That's right. I mean, in defense of Greenleigh - we were under attack, it seems, from Snowhold. It is not normally the duty of a Princess to lead on the battlefield, but she really was quite insistent.
[Hmmmmmm. T-chan's... fluffy tail lifts ever so slightly and wages once or twice back and forth...]
Ah, I see. She sounds...
[He's trying to think of an appropriate phrase as he stands here holding the ball. It isn't that he believes women shouldn't or couldn't conduct warfare...]
D surveys Gerard's reaction. Hmmm. The depression he's getting off this frog man... He isn't sure if it's appropriate to ask since it could be any number of things Gerard might not want to talk about.
Deviance, death...........divorce. He does not learn the d lore despite being a D.]
Is that what you last remember then...? Escaping during an attack?
It is only that I am used to running a business for customers of all walks of life. [His manners...] But I will call you whatever you would like to be called.
[ this both tracks and is something of a shock. his name is Count. The nobility don't have jobs. ]
All things considered, I suppose I'm alive and able to fight another day. And I was not beaten to death with a pipa during the trial, so, really, coming out ahead.
[ he'll wander into the cathedral at some point - though probably in that way where someone is just walking around and not quite sure what to do with themselves and is pacing instead. it's been a long day. ]
I know. It should. But it is being used against us here. Everyone wants to go back, to be alive, and yet... things are stacked unevenly. There are children, there are women, there are those who have never fought in their lives.
[ yeah okay. he will. he does with a big whump and sort of sinks down into the seat. but it's not exactly sitting like a frog, just ... a kind of sad man. ]
[ it's come as a great shock to him to have to look out for teenagers and he isn't quite sure he was ready for any sort of responsibility like that, but here we are. ]
I think I'd have to just say that I wish we lived in a world where being a kind and gentlehearted person whose biggest worry is petty arguments with his friends and bickering with his mother and where he is going to go to school is possible. That by hurting him, you've made this place ... darker. Worse. It didn't have to be.
Then judging by past experience there'd probably be violence.
This place is already as dark as it can be. Nothing here is any good. It’s rotten. I think in the normalcy of it, those things were taken a little for granted.
And in the rottenness here, we are able to finally see what matters most.
D is in the park because unfortunately for reasons(?) he cannot be in the pet shop... Instead of sitting and vibing as usual, he is... pacing slowly around like a lunatic, hands clasped together under his chin.
[ well this is an improvement from all three of the others maybe? at least D is alive again and healed. he’s never really seem D even agitated so this is weird. ]
WEEKEND ZERO - SATURDAY
[ that seems to please him, so he'll do what he's supposed to do - take the ball in both hands and walk up to the alley and try to toss it ...
but it sticks to his hands. ]
Ah.
no subject
D covers his mouth with his fingers after the failed attempt.] Oh dear. [He lifts his hand up in front of him, but then slowly lowers it. Hmmm.]
I'm afraid I have no gloves. Are you able to wrap your hand in your cape, by chance? I will hand wash it in the bathroom if it becomes dirty.
[Snatching Francy's opportunity to nerf our toilets out of her hands.]
no subject
the screen up above displays a little graphic that says GUTTERBALL with a sad musical sound effect. ]
Yes, I think I'll try that.
no subject
It may help. You can put your fingers in the holes then, as long as they are big enough.
[Thinks about Buzen getting his fingers stuck.......]
You have another turn, too. As long as you don't knock all the pins down the first try.
no subject
[ don't say it like that. ]
Then I shall try again. This game is fun.
[ he doesn't seem completely convinced. but he'll try, try again and rolls a BIG OL 12. True success in Gerard terms. The ball this time hops out of his hand, rolls down and ... knocks down two pins. ]
Oh--! Success. Look!
no subject
Good job, Your Highness! You're getting the hang of this already.
[The pins will get reset so he can take a turn. He still does not stick his fingers in the holes, he's too worried about the nails.]
Might I ask what Greenleigh is like?
no subject
Right now? I imagine not good. Destroyed by giants and such. At least, the last time I saw it, when I was fleeing the castle.
no subject
D drops the ball into the lane and watches it very slowly roll down at a diagonal. It only gets one pin on the very edge.]
Oh? [He looks sympathetic as he comes to retrieve his ball.] That sounds awful.
Was it a surprise attack?
no subject
Erm. It certainly surprised me? [ ... ] My wife had been planning-- war rooms, and such ...
no subject
He doesn't seem to be bothered by a frog man either? Or hungry for one.]
Your wife had been planning... warfare?
no subject
Yes. That's right. I mean, in defense of Greenleigh - we were under attack, it seems, from Snowhold. It is not normally the duty of a Princess to lead on the battlefield, but she really was quite insistent.
no subject
Ah, I see. She sounds...
[He's trying to think of an appropriate phrase as he stands here holding the ball. It isn't that he believes women shouldn't or couldn't conduct warfare...]
Like an iron-willed handful.
no subject
[ he sort of laughs at that reply, and it's both actual fond amusement and also just. deeply sad. yeah! ]
That is true. It is one of the things most admirable about her.
no subject
D surveys Gerard's reaction. Hmmm. The depression he's getting off this frog man... He isn't sure if it's appropriate to ask since it could be any number of things Gerard might not want to talk about.
Deviance, death...........divorce. He does not learn the d lore despite being a D.]
Is that what you last remember then...? Escaping during an attack?
w0, sat post trial
D isn't out looking for anyone in particular, and he's missing a certain goat-tiger creature, but he does stop nearby.]
Your Highness.
no subject
That's certainly formal. I think you're fine just saying Gerard if you like at this point.
no subject
It is only that I am used to running a business for customers of all walks of life. [His manners...] But I will call you whatever you would like to be called.
How are you faring?
no subject
[ this both tracks and is something of a shock. his name is Count. The nobility don't have jobs. ]
All things considered, I suppose I'm alive and able to fight another day. And I was not beaten to death with a pipa during the trial, so, really, coming out ahead.
no subject
[Not the Count working like a dirty commoner. Very funny.]
You are very optimistic which is good.
W1 - Friday
Have you-- Seen anything? Heard anything?
no subject
Only that Mr. Rin has been erased.
no subject
[ he'll come sit down heavily near him then. ]
He was-- a very good person. It doesn't make any sense.
no subject
I'm not sure if good or bad means anything here, Your Highness. But I understand. You liked him.
no subject
[ he has, actually. and the conclusion was mostly the same. ]
Good or bad doesn't mean anything, but it should. It should matter. I wish there was a way to make it so.
no subject
I know. It should. But it is being used against us here. Everyone wants to go back, to be alive, and yet... things are stacked unevenly. There are children, there are women, there are those who have never fought in their lives.
We don't know who will be next for either side.
W1, Sat
D is in the park, sitting on a bench quietly. T-chan is beside him on the bench as well.]
no subject
he actually doesn't know what to say. ]
no subject
He gestures at the other end of the bench.]
You may sit if you'd like.
no subject
Did you know?
no subject
Yes, I did.
no subject
no subject
no subject
[ he really. can't be too angry they didn't say anything. he knows they couldn't. ]
no subject
If you knew who enough for a quarrel, what were you going to say to them?
no subject
[ it's come as a great shock to him to have to look out for teenagers and he isn't quite sure he was ready for any sort of responsibility like that, but here we are. ]
I think I'd have to just say that I wish we lived in a world where being a kind and gentlehearted person whose biggest worry is petty arguments with his friends and bickering with his mother and where he is going to go to school is possible. That by hurting him, you've made this place ... darker. Worse. It didn't have to be.
Then judging by past experience there'd probably be violence.
no subject
[He simply waits patiently and listens.]
This place is already as dark as it can be. Nothing here is any good. It’s rotten. I think in the normalcy of it, those things were taken a little for granted.
And in the rottenness here, we are able to finally see what matters most.
w5, thurs
D is in the park because unfortunately for reasons(?) he cannot be in the pet shop... Instead of sitting and vibing as usual, he is... pacing slowly around like a lunatic, hands clasped together under his chin.
He is mumbling to himself...]
no subject
Doing alright?
no subject
I think so... I've been praying about it.
no subject
Praying. [ he didn’t actually expect that from D, but he was praying when he died too so that makes sense. ] Is it working?
no subject
His lips thin into a wry smile.]
A little… Knowing He is listening brings some comfort after everything. The idea he will extend forgiveness if I put my faith in Him.
no subject
I actually don’t know ... how much religion has weight in fairytale land. ]
You’re— looking for forgiveness? For what happened?
[ hrm. ]
I don’t know that you need it, necessarily. Those stories are meant to hurt you. Make you do the worst things possible.
